Welcome to the Society for Mind-Matter Research!

The society supports and promotes scientists working in the exciting area of mind-matter research from the perspectives of the sciences and the humanities. Its publication organ is Mind and Matter, an international interdisciplinary journal established in 2003.

How are the mental and the material, mind and matter, related to one another? This has been one of the big questions of sciences and humanities through centuries. Nevertheless, progress of our understanding of mind-matter relations has been slow, and even the explosion of specific results in brain science did not much change this situation.

It is the mission of the Society for Mind-Matter Research to explore and support novel promising routes of research on mind-matter relations and their impact on cultural issues in general. As Gregory Bateson put it: ”The major problems in the world are the result of the difference between how nature works and the way people think.”

Through conferences, workshops and personal exchange, the society offers networking opportunities and serves as a platform for the discussion of hot topics and new ideas, a forum which helps shape the future of this rapidly expanding field of science. You can support the society as a member and receive a free subscription to "Mind and Matter" as well as a number of other benefits.

The Society is ideologically neutral and institutionally independent. It does not cooperate with internet platforms or services which engage in unethical collection or usage of data.
